She Saw My Husband’s Privates
I attend Pure Barre. It’s a great workout. I feel stronger and leaner from years of practice. It is different from Boot Camp. Is it as hard as Boot Camp? It is in a different way. Those that do Boot Camp would very much have a hard time at Pure Barre. This I can state with certainty given I’ve experienced both workouts.
The Pure Barre community is small. I discovered this on the evening of my husband’s hernia surgery. We had discussed his hernia surgery and of course, his worry (such a typical male). I assured him he would be fine and that I would be there to drop him off and I would be there when he woke up.
He had mentioned the name of his physician many times but naturally only by the last name. Dr. Sanderson is her name. (Well that is not her real name. I’ve changed the names to protect the innocent). The night of his surgery however, he mentioned her first and last name, Val Sanderson, and that is when the light bulb went off. Val S. Val S is how I know her, not by her full name. I said “Val S attends Pure Barre.” I knew she was a surgeon however I only knew her as Val S, which is how we post our names during Pure Barre challenges, first name and first initial of last name. Not only do I know Val S from pure barre, but I regularly speak with her, we engage in routine conversations about current events and exchange texts and podcasts. I said to my husband, so you mean to tell me that Val S is your hernia doctor? “Nooooooo” I exclaimed. “Val S has seen your privates. What am I going to do now?” My husband laughed.
I was not laughing. My mind was racing. Now every time I see Val S it will be my first thought. Val S has seen your privates.
The surgery was the following day. I took my husband to his appointment at 8AM. I left him in good hands. I returned to pick him up. It took quite some time for the anesthesia to wear off. My husband kept asking who had dressed him. It was cute, the effects of the anesthesia. You never know what someone is going to say or do post-op and post-anesthesia. I collected him and brought him home. He was unbelievably talkative post-op.
I received a follow-up call from Dr. Sanderson. She advised that all went well and my husband should be good as new; keep an eye on him and report any issues. My husband continued to talk; if I’m honest it was a relentless chatter. I gave him a bell and set him up on the couch with a blanket, water and a remote control and told him to ring the bell if he needed me as I returned to work.
I see Val S nearly every week during class. The surgery is the furthest thing from my mind, and I am sure from hers. She is the consummate professional. Every once in a while, though, the thought crosses my mind. She saw my husband’s privates.
Sweet Dreams,
Ava
