Men for Whom I’d Leave My Husband

I am joking of course. My last few stories have been about how much I love my quirky husband. By the way he does not listen to my podcast nor read my stories. Sigh. Such is life. But to lighten up the stories of late I thought I would share some of my faves of the opposite sex.

So here we go.

Let’s start with Jon, looks a lot like Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird, Ossoff. I have a tee-shirt from his first senatorial campaign and it says “Vote Your Ossoff”. I love this man. His mentor was John Lewis. He’s smart, articulate, incredibly handsome, and he does not back down. He has a certain swagger. I think he’s the one.

I am a New York football Giants fan. But I have to tell you that has not stopped me from thirsting for Jalen Hurts. I mean honestly, the man can look at you and you might melt.

There’s the Nigerian soccer player, the goalkeeper Maduka Okoye. Wow. Just wow.

Pete Sampras and Derek Jeter in their prime days. Back in the day I was unable to watch Sampras - Agassi matches because I was too nervous. I would have to wait until the match was over and watch the replay.

Roger Federer yesterday, today, tomorrow and always.

Sam Hartman, NFL quarterback. He’s no Jalen Hurts but he’s quite the looker; and of course Jimmy Grappalo.

Yannick Nezet-Seguin, the conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra. His passion and deep appreciation for music is unparalleled. Yannick’s ability to create music in such an awe-inspiring way will always give me chills. The performances take your breath away.  As you know Beethoven’s Ninth is my favorite piece of music of all time. Watching Yannick conduct the Ninth is one of my most favorite things to do. That and safaris of course.

Well I think I have exhausted the men for whom I’d leave my husband. He’s lucky. It’s a very short list.

While we are talking short lists, I have a short list of pet peeves so let’s get to it. I am all for helping people out. However, that ledge is short when someone asks me to contact a physician, that I know, to request an expedited surgery appointment in a non-emergency scenario. Here is the backstory. I’m advised that someone’s significant other needs surgery. The person I know has reached out  to multiple physicians throughout the state. I happened to know a physician that will perform the specified surgery and therefore a favor was asked of me to contact the physician and have this physician contact the individual directly so that they could request that this surgery, which again was not an emergency, be prioritized. This individual even reached out to the head of the Hospital for Special Surgery. What I don’t understand is why this surgery should be expedited over everyone else that is waiting for the same surgery. What dictates that your situation and your circumstances are different. Again, it was not life threatening, it was not an emergency, so why? It is the privilege. This individual believes that their situation is different and that if you know someone you should be able to jump the line. The audacity.

Pet peeve number 2. Loudly constantly bragging for all to hear.  Do you know the type? This individual claims to keep to themselves and covet privacy but whenever you see them, they are just loud enough for you to hear. It is intentional;  they want everyone to know all of their business.  They portray an air of privilege and wealth, and refinement, a serious person, but the audible bragging evidences a personality and person very much the opposite. It’s a constant barrage of  “I was at the US Open”, “I was just in the City and I saw the Tony award winning musical and we had 6th row seats”, “I was sitting behind Edie Falco at the Knicks game”. Who cares? Why is it necessary to share these details and loudly. It makes one look insecure and desperate.

I’m not sure how we got here from men for whom I’d leave my husband to pet peeves, but here we are.

Sweet Dreams,

Ava
