You’re Literally Superwoman

Newsflash, you’re not. Do you know who is Superwoman? Rosa Parks, The Little Rock Nine, Ketanji Brown Jackson, Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, Kamala Harris, Gabby Giffords, Emmet Till’s mother.

But you are not Superwoman.

I am always amazed by people that toot their own horns constantly and in such a public way. I’m looking at you again Giselle.

Don’t we think maybe less is more, maybe before sharing that post where someone told you that you were Superwoman think twice before putting it out there?

I know lots of women that work very hard and have overcome so much.

Please tell me what you have overcome that entitles you to this prestigious title?

Did you argue a case that changed the course of history?

Were you the first woman of color to sit on the Supreme Court of the United States?

Did you perform the first open-heart surgery in the history of the world?

Have you developed vaccines that have saved lives?

Are you working in Africa to help residents impacted by the war in Sudan?

Are you doing all you can to support relief efforts in Gaza?

Have you held a fundraiser for Ukraine or worked with an immigration organization to rehouse Afghans, Ukrainians; or those impacted by the war in Darfur?

Do you have to do any of the things above to be Superwoman? Well, I might argue yes, but in reality the answer is no. You don’t have to do the above to be Superwoman. Feats of triumph vary from person to person. What one person does and derives accomplishment from might not be the same for another person. We are all measured differently. But for goodness sake, when you take a look around, when you stop and look at the world we live in, when you see what is going on in the United States, when you see how people are being treated, when you see that rights of individuals are being trampled do you really think you need to post that you are Superwoman just because you made it through a day or week you found particularly trying?  Doyou have a roof over your head, were you well fed, were any of your rights taken away?  It certainly does not appear so from your posts.

So, when you have a tough week, which we all do, and you tell the entire world how difficult of a week it has been let’s stop and think again about this assertion. Let’s pause before we post.  Did you integrate an all-white school? Did you make new discoveries in space? Did you orbit earth?

Is it all relative, of course it is, but let’s be reasonable.

Rosa Parks could have lost her life doing what she did.

You hired someone to install solar panels.

Which one is Superwoman? You be the judge.
